Additional Information

As a manager in the voluntary sector, I found I had to learn most things the hard way – by learning from my mistakes. The desire to profit from this painful learning and share it with others led me to go free-lance as a consultant and trainer in 1997. Since then I have helped over 80 different voluntary agencies to manage change and improve their sustainability, by strengthening their management and governance, developing forward plans and securing new funding. The shift in focus of my funding support work - from grant applications to tendering - closely reflects the evolution of the sector. As well as being an ex-manager, I am currently the Treasurer of my local Volunteer Centre, so I find I can "wear different hats", supporting either the Board or the Manager to suit the needs of the situation.
